When I was a little girl developed for me an idea what kind of ”a real doll” should be. That idea has changed and worked up during the years and continue it’s progress ahead. The dolls have been and still are very important for me. I haven’t never decided to be a doll maker, combining my interest in sculpture, painting and dress design, I became a doll maker.
As artist I have always been captivated with shape and three-dimensionality and how to model exact shapes without” killing” them. On the contrary I try to create forms in which you can find life and movement. To the expressions of my doll’s I try to achieve something just disappeared and something that is just coming. As fruits of my inspiration was ”born” heads and limbs from clay. I practiced porcelain doll making with errors and succeed. Before I found porcelain I proved different kind of substances and cloth, but not until porcelain gave me the result I wish. My first porcelain doll was completed in the begining of 1991. To work with hands is the same for me as breathing. In the dolls I’m able to create my talents bottomless by design and making the clothing including socks, shoes and wigs. The Doll Artisan Guild’s seminars has been epoch-making in my carrier as an doll artist. Although in the first begining was I only interested in doll sculpting, from those seminars I found a wonderful world of antique dolls and reproduction of these. There I have learn the technical knowledge of doll making. I have been lucky to have the most respected doll makers as teachers. Little by little I got status among them and I have been D.A.G’s instructor since 1995. I finished my Grand Master of Doll making in 1997 and I got the award Master of Teaching, Educator, in the same year. To teach and share my knowledge is a great pleasure for me. I teach both sculpting and reproduction doll making and everything includes dolls. I have an education and background of an artisan, artist and pedagog. The latest interest in my art is the needle felting. Needle felting is a technique where you build up the ground of you work with wool by felting it in it’s form with a special needle. After that you colour the creation with a thin layer of coloured wool by the same needle. I have used it as three dimensional faces and reliefs. I have also combined it with porcelain doll making. I have exhibited both privately and publicly since 1990. I got in 1993 the Gold Award for grafts and arts. You can find my works in the craft museum of Finland, in Folk dress museum, in Grafts and arts museum in Helsinki and in many private collections all over the world.
